The Bookkeeper of Melbourne Street: by Josslyn  Martin Art -Limited edition (100) print is based on a painting by Josslyn which has two narratives. The first being the story behind the reference photograph and the second is the implied story of the subjects matter.The photo was taken by the artist in 1981 while still studying. There was a chance meeting between the subject and photographer that was candidly shot. It always felt, to the artist, that the photo had capture a by-gone era, a time when film noir of the 1930’s – 50’s was at its height.

The artist has tried to capture this period in their painting by reflecting the high contrast lighting, trademark shadows, femme fatale and maybe a cynical hero. Could he be from the seedy underbelly, where crime and corruption reign or a simple man walking home from work. Here is the beauty of visual discourse, its ultimately up to the viewer to weave their own story.
